Claire is Policy and Campaigns Director in the EWL Secretariat. She is responsible for coordinating and providing strategic direction to EWL’s policy and campaigns work. She works to ensure that EWL’s policies are sound, its advocacy sharp and its campaigns loud so that, together with its members all over Europe, EWL brings progress to women’s rights.
She joined the EWL in September 2019. Claire is a lawyer, a campaigner and an activist for women’s rights. She studied law in France and Germany and specialised in International Human Rights Law. She is a long-standing feminist, fighting for women’s rights including through the Women’s Committee at Amnesty International France from 2002 to 2008.
Claire focused her PhD on sexual violence in armed conflicts and gained both academic and practical expertise on gender legal studies. After defending her PhD in November 2007, she joined the International Criminal Court in The Hague to work on Congolese, Central African and Ivorian cases, specializing in the participation of survivors of sexual violence in the legal proceedings. Claire then moved to Brussels and joined the ONE Campaign from late 2013 to mid-2019 leading a team of campaigners to ensure EU’s leadership in the fight against extreme poverty in the global south, with a focus on women’s and girls’ rights.
